How does the community benefit from home security?
Monitored or unmonitored security systems. What is the difference?

Alarm monitoring is a fast and comprehensive exchange of information between the security system in your home and the security provider. The control panel from your end records an urgent activity and transmits it to the principal surveillance point where the relevant security agents are alerted and they take action by coming to your house or contacting you to verify the nature of emergency.

Each security agent has unique and specific technical features but the nitty gritties remain the same in all home security systems. All sensors such as the windows & doors sensors, tamper detectors, motion sensor, fire sensors or flood sensors are networked and linked to your system control panel at home. As soon as the sensors perceive a trigger of any kind, an alert is conveyed to the monitoring point mostly through your mobile phone. However, there are some alarm monitoring systems that provide a backup or a substitute communication option.

Staff at the monitoring station will be alerted by the first signal released by your control point. Their first instinctive response is to contact you to verify the situation on the ground, whether it is an actual emergency or a false alarm. In cases where they are not able to reach you, a team of emergency response is directed to your home.

There are some advanced features in some of the security alarm such as instant alarms whereby the central station does not necessarily need to confirm or verify the situation before sending a response team to your address. Another advanced feature is the silent alarm. The main advantage with this is that the intruder is not aware that a signal has been conveyed and therefore they are not able to deactivate the alarm system to prevent it from sending a confirmation signal. This helps the security agents to apprehend the culprits in action.

The information transmitted by your home control panel is very critical. This includes account credentials which enable the security agents to access your home address and contacts and also informs them the alarm that has been activated. For instant, the fire department will be automatically signaled in case of a smoke detector alarm while the paramedics or ambulance response team will be contacted by the medical alarm.

There are also advantages with the unmonitored security systems. In case you are at home and the alarm goes off, the siren will alert you of potential danger and you will be able to react or respond appropriately. The siren will discourage petty thieves but may not scare off an experienced thug who will deactivate the alarm and silence it.

Some of the emergencies that arise are beyond your ability to handle by yourself and may therefore need back up help from either police, fire or paramedic departments.

Most home security retailers provide a 24/7 alarm monitoring option which is a very important feature as this ensures that your home is safe whether you are around or out of town.
